While there are many pressing issues facing our City,
my campaign is focusing on four primary themes:
Over the course of four public events in early 2006, I unveiled a series of proposals for
how our community can do a better job of addressing each of these challenges. (My first event, on January 26, featured
the unveiling of my affordable housing platform; my second, on February 9, focused on education; on February 20, I discussed poverty & race; on March 1, I addressed environmental sustainability.)
As your City Councilor, I will promote a spirit of openness
and responsiveness in City government, and will place a strong emphasis on public participation, creative and
collaborative problem-solving, and the efficient and effective use of taxpayer
dollars. These are notions that have served me well in previous professional and civic positions,
and I look forward to applying these same principles to my work on City Council.
Finally, while I heartily endorse the general principles of the Charlottesville Democratic Party (as stated
here), I also believe in putting good policy above blind partisanship, and will eagerly seek opportunities
to work across lines of party and ideology to forge positive solutions to our community's needs.
